Hi, I'm playing on a free account. I recently got to level 80 and bought the game (physical copy from amazon, will be there in a few days). In the meantime, I noticed that my xp bar is still filling up, but since I don't have access to mastery yet, I was wondering: is this xp wasted or will it be transfered to "mastery xp" once I apply the cd-key to my account? The level to 80 hero points are exactly enough to get everything for your chore class. Each additional elite specialization requires 250 further hero points. No matter how you reach level 80, you will always have 398 hp + (any gained from hero challenges you have completed) once 80. Intro. There is only one known way in the universe to level a mesmer without wanting to hang yourself by your toenails by level 10. They're squishy at low levels moreso than most classes, don't kill as fast or feel as powerful pre-80 (as, say, thieves or warriors) and hence are harder to level, don't outgrow that till around 50-60, and don't actually get good till you're geared up in Exotics Just do hero points. Preferably on PoF maps (more points per challenge). How fast they will accumulate depends on: Effectiveness of your build; Gear (damage) Map travel (super fast with mounts) My estimate is it can be done well within the hour, as all PoF maps are open from the getgo. When a character accumulates enough experience, they will gain a level and receive level rewards up to the maximum level 80. Depending on a level, rewards unlock new skills and mechanics, providing various game tips and guidance, increase character's attributes, grant hero points, and unlock equipment of higher rarity. It goes away after the first mission of either of the expansions (minus the prologue). It's super annoying, yeah. The reason is that after you reach level 80 your XP starts funneling into your core tyria masteries, but the UI for it is locked until the expansions. Eventually the XP for these maxes out and you already have some points unlocked in the background through achievements and QrRK. When I made a new elementalist I wanted to be a weaver I used Tomes of Knowledge to level them to 80, went straight to Path of Fire maps and did 25 hero challenges to get 250 points, then bought a full set of exotics from the Trading Post and they were ready for World vs World a few hours after being created. (In retrospect I should have bought Some can be rather useful and you will also get level 20 booster which can be used to level up an alt (which can still progress through story incl Personal Story without any real impact). At level 80 (you need at least one character to be level 80 on account) you will also get access to Mastery which this game introduced with HoT expansion. Some of these do require certain masteries like Ley-Line gliding for one in Dragon Stand. The thread also recommends some of the easier fight related Hero points which can easily be soloed. If all else fails, play WvW and use the Heroic Notary unlocks to get the remaining required Hero Points. Pof are pretty easy, too, but you need mounts to get to most of them. Hot maps are the only maps which you can get into without full masteries or story chapters done but you will need help for most hero points. You can try to find hero points train squad in lfg (type Y and open hot map that you need. There is not always hero points train but Also note, using a level 80 boost lets you play around with the class at level 80 in the Silverwastes (A normal level 80 zone featured in Living World Season 2) before you commit and consume the item. So you can play around with having all skills and specs (Minus Elites) on the classes before you make your decision. As far as leveling up goes While I enjoy the changes done to how you progress in HoT and how it encourages exploration is also very annoying that many of the hero points are unaccessible because of mastery points and I feel like mastery experience is super slow to get, what I mean is all of those areas that requiere you to unlock a mastery to be able to access some paths
